The green light has been given for the European Super League, which aims to rival the UEFA Champions League. In the last court hearing at the European Court of Justice, it was stated that FIFA and UEFA’s dominance over European football is not unrivaled. Accordingly, it was reported that the European Super League could be organized.
European Super League can be broadcast for free
The European Super League, which first appeared in 2021, was rejected by UEFA. The organization even threatened to punish the clubs that would participate in this league. However, the European Court of Justice stated that some of UEFA’s decisions were unlawful.
The court decision stated that it was wrong to prevent the Super League without any objective criteria. However, the case also challenges UEFA’s status as the sole authority in football. The Super League project may create competition in this field.
Let us also underline that the Super League project has not been directly approved. The court stated that only UEFA had to evaluate the new offers in a fair and transparent manner. However, the decision is a victory for A22 Sports Management, which supports the Super League.
Speaking on the subject, CEO Bernd Reichart stated that the clubs are now free from the threat of sanctions imposed by UEFA. According to Reichart’s statement, clubs will now be able to determine their own future. The CEO also suggested that all Super League matches be watched for free.
Additionally, Barcelona President Joan Laporta said, “If everything goes well, the European Super League will become a reality in 2025.”
The format of the league was also announced in some of the allegations that emerged. Accordingly, a “large amount” of payments will be made to the clubs participating in the Super League. It is said that 1 billion euros will be paid for clubs such as Barcelona and Real Madrid.
UEFA, on the other hand, stated that it will preserve the existing European “football pyramid” and continue to work with stakeholders. We will see over time how the organization will approach football clubs.
